Ed Yates-2025

Ed Yates is a 1984 graduate of Chillicothe Southeastern High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball for the Panthers. After graduation he attended the University of Rio Grande where he earned his BS in Mathematics Education. He played baseball for four years with the Redmen, earning All-Conference and All-District honors the last two years.
In 1992, Coach Yates began his baseball coaching career as a volunteer assistant under Head Coach Dan Raike at Greenfield High School. In 1995 he accepted his first head coaching position in baseball at Madison Plains High School. In 1997 he became head baseball coach at Adena High School and stayed there for 13 years. His last stop was with the Huntington Huntsmen, leading their baseball program from 2018-2023.
During his 20 years as head coach of baseball, Coach Yates has a combined record of 351-141. His teams earned 13 Sectional, 9 District, and 1 Regional Championships. In 2005 his Adena team was State Runner-Up. He was also honored to receive 10 League CoY, 7 District CoY, 2 State CoY, and 1 NFHS CoY.
Coach Yates taught high school mathematics for 34 years before his retirement. He coached many sports including 20 years as HC of baseball, 30 years in football (1 as HC), 3 years HC of Cross Country, 2 years HC of softball, and 7 years as an assistant of basketball.
Coach Yates wants to thank all of the athletes, coaches, and administrators who have helped make this day possible. Thank you all for the long days and hard work that you have put in for our programs. It has been a privilege to have the opportunity to help shape young people’s lives in a positive manner. It was important to show them the love of Christ in everything that was done, whether in victory or defeat.
Coach Yates would also like to thank his family for their love and support. To his wife, Sheila, for the 36 years by his side as his best friend and to his three children: Krysta, Kirsti, and Kirk; thank you for putting up with some very long days! I love you all!
