Mike began teaching at Perry H.S. in Lake County in 1979. After graduating from Olmsted Falls H.S. in 1974, Mike continued his baseball career at Kent State University. He lettered for three years as a catcher and received his B.A. degree in 1979. Holding a master's degree and has been teaching industrial arts at Perry for 28 years. While at Perry, he has served as an assistant football coach for 28 years, an assistant wrestling coach for 26 years, and as the head baseball coach for 26 years. As the head baseball coach, Mike's teams have won 396 games with 9 conference, 10 sectional, 2 district runner-ups. In 2004, the Pirates went to the Final Four. Mike was elected to the OHSBCA executive board after serving as a NE rep. He served as the 2003 OHSBCA president. Mike has been one of the lucky players and coaches, through hard work, to hold the honor of playing in, coaching in, having his son play in and organizing the All-Ohio Series held in June.
Mike has been married for 27 years to his best friend, Lori. They have 3 children, Brynn, Mike and Hannah all of whom have received OHSBCA Scholarships. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the enduring support of his coaching staff, the players of the past and present, the Perry Local Schools administration, the Perry Baseball community and last but not least his family whom he holds the greatest debt of gratitude.
