Logan HS

Hall of Fame

Marion C. Allen, a Mt. Pleasant native, Logan Chieftain diamond mentor for 24 seasons (1947-1970), was admitted to the OHSBCA Hall of Fame in February, 1974. Allen is the only two-time president of the OHSBCA serving in 1967 & 1968. It was during his presidency that Allen initiated plans for the HOF and the proposal was adopted by membership. The 1932 Logan HS graduate was a fine diamond performer in his own right. He was captain of the Chieftain baseball team in 1931 and played varsity baseball 1934-37 at Ohio University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1937 and his master's in 1950. In Allen's last two years at OU, the Bobcats captured the Buckeye Conference championship. His early teaching and coaching career included stints as the coach of all sports at York Township HS, Deavertown (Morgan County), 1937-38, and an assistant football and basketball coach at Logan HS 1938-42. Allen's career in education and coaching was interrupted by WWII as he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46. After his military service, he returned to Logan HS, where he was named head baseball coach in the spring of 1947. During his reign, his Chieftain squads compiled a 160-145 record with a sectional title in 1968 and district runner-up in 1963. He also served as a football assistant for 18 years and was a basketball assistant for 12 years at Logan HS. Allen helped with organization of the OHSBCA and served as a district representative on the board for five years. In 1976, he was still a board member by virtue of being OHSBCA Past President. He served as chairman for the 13th annual clinic at Ohio State University in 1965.
