Paul Serra - Euclid High School

Paul Serra was one the finest baseball players who ever played in Euclid. He is a product of the extensive baseball program in Euclid and the Greater Cleveland area.

As a first baseman under Hall of Fame Coach Neal Nelson, Paul was a team captain, an All-Conference, Greater Cleveland All-Scholastic and All-Ohio player. In his senior year, Paul led the team in hits, RBI’s and batting average. On the field, he did not commit a single error all season.

At Kent State University, Paul was a 3-year starter. In his senior year, he captained the team, made All-Conference and received the Best Defense Award.

Paul signed a professional contract with the New York Mets and played in the farm system for two years. He batted .313 in 1962.

Coach Paul Serra moved from teaching at Euclid Shore Junior High to Euclid High School in 1972 and coached under Hall of Famer Bob Addis for five years.  He was a teacher and coach in Euclid for over 30 years.

He took the head varsity baseball coaching position in 1977 for 17 years.  In those 17 seasons, Coach Serra’s teams compiled 11 GCC Championships, 16 Sectional Championships, 7 District Championships, 4 Regional Championships and a State AAA Championship in 1982.

He was named the Greater Cleveland Coach of the Year 4 times and his total coaching record finished with 419 wins, 114 losses, and a .786 winning percentage.

Coach Serra also coached summer American Legion baseball for 25 years with over 1,000 coaching wins.
