Dick Fishbaugh finished his 34th season as head baseball coach at Otterbein College before passing away in 1999. Fishbaugh, who compiled a 624-501-12 record at Otterbein, guided the Cardinals to their first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Championship in 1989. He led Otterbein to six appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, advancing to the championship game in 1983.
Under his tutelage, several Otterbein players went on to play professional baseball including Jim Allen, Tim Koethke, Mike Goodwin, Ob Hartman, Kirk McDonald, Jim McKee, Wes Williams, and Jon Clinger. Coach Fishbaugh has also had a number of his players go onto successful careers in both coaching baseball and in the field of umpiring.
Know for his hitting prowess, Fishbaugh mastered the art of hitting at Ohio University, where he was a three-year letterman and served as captain of the 1995 squad. He set an NCAA record for most RBIs in a game, seven versus Michigan State in 1954, which was not equaled for 17 years.
Following graduation from Ohio University in 1956, Fishbaugh taught and coached at several Ohio high schools: Berne Union, Watkins Memorial, Pataskala, and Reynoldsburg.
He received his master's degree from West Virginia University in 1963. Fishbaugh came to Otterbein in 1966 and until his death served as an assistant football coach, head basketball coach, facilities director of the Rike Center, assistant athletic director, and owner of Grand Slam hitting school.
