Coach Young's varsity career coaching record was 465-168 at Tallmadge H.S. Dave also coached Freshmen basketball for 31 years and Varsity Cross Country for 5 years. His teams at Tallmadge won 10 Metropolitan League champions, 6 District Championships, 1 Regional Championship and a State Runner-up in 1966. Coach Young has been elected to six Hall of Fames: Akron AA League, Summit County Sports, East H.S., Tallmadge H.S., Akron University and the OHSBCA.

Coach graduated from East H.S. in 1955, pitched 2 no-hitters and was a teammate of NY Yankee, Gene Michaels. He continued his baseball career at Akron University with a career pitching record of 24-8. His career ERA of 1.13 and career strikeouts of 325 are still Akron records. His ERA in 1958 of 0.46 was the best in the nation. Coach Young played 21 years in the Akron AA league in the summer.
